A New York City native based in Portland, ME, Elise Ansel studied Visual Art and Comparative Literature at the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University, and then earned an MFA in Visual Art from Southern Methodist University. Ansel reimagines renaissance and baroque masterpieces in her unique gestural vocabulary. Ansel has exhibited her work throughout the United States and Europe. Her paintings are currently touring the United Kingdom in the ‰ÛÏYoung Masters‰Û exhibition, and were recently selected by Mel Kendrick for inclusion in the Artists Choose Artists exhibition at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, NY. Her work will appear in the Summer Exhibition 2015 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Held without interruption since 1769, the Summer Exhibition's earliest exhibitors included the likes of Reynolds, Constable and Turner.
